Hi there,
My daighter is 8 months old and has been on solids since 5 months old, she started off with a bang and really loved all the mushy lovely vegies and meat I made her...now all of a sudden she doesnt want the mush she wants fingers food...struggling with ideas and also how much to give her! she has also decided to self ween off the breast milk! Maybe I am being paraniod just wanting some comfort in knowing other babies have done the same!!
Thanks

Hi Kim My daughter is pretty independant too -its a good thing that they know what they want but sometimes it isn't always what they need - luckly they have you to take care of that. There are some good finger food books (try your library) and the baby led weaning blog has good ideas. My daughter was crazy for roasted kumara and steamed broccoli and eventually she got the hang of a spoon and would tolerate mush again -so long as she was in charge! Messy though!

RE: breast feeding -my daughter suddenly decided to self wean except for a morning feed -she seemed more into it whilst still sleepy. She also went through a phase of not wanting it and then went back up to 3 feeeds from 1. I would persisit, maybe express and give in a cup if need be (it really is the best food for them) and continue to offer it but dont make a big deal out of it if she refuses or it might become a power struggle and its better that you empower her knowing what she needs. :)

Thanks Felice! Was so nice to hear from you and that you too have had similar experiences! I have been perservering and getting there with her.... I have found that she has taking a big liking to pastas and noodles...slowly getting the vege back into her too..yay! Had not thought to go to the library, thanks for the reminder. I have taken a step back and am really enjoying the fact that she is so keen to be independent from a young age.

My son started solids at 5 months and is now 8 months and started finger food, foods he loves that your daughter might enjoy are; bananas. apple slices toast soldiers with marmite, little slices of cheese. I give him a finger food and a mash of something too. Best of luck.
